Cable, Nightlife, Sightseeing
11.- 15. Juni 2008
At first there supposed to be a invitational winch competition at an fountain in the middle of the centre of Beograd. But than they had problems with the government and cancelled it. However me and my girlfriend Alex already got the tickets, so we decided still to come and visit my friend Vukasin Cupic.
Contest flyer, left comic drawing from Vule!
Vule is 35 years young and in his age, he is one of the best cable wakeboarders in the world. He won two gold metals at the Europeans and silver at the World Championships. I knew that he is a bit in the antiques and painting business, but when I have seen his collections and gallerie, I was totally stoked. His mother cooked us this traditional and delicious Serbian dinner, and sitting on this 200 years old chair next to the Japanese Ming Vase, for a moment we felt like royals.

The cable in Beograd has two kickers and one slider. The water level can change rapidly, but we was lucky and I got a nice pull for some inverts. It is a very long lake, like a channel, so its never choppy. But on hot summer days it can be incredible busy. There are dozen’s of bares, restaurants and beach benches. Sometimes over 100.000 people come there to take a sun bath. It’s a bit funny when you ride at the other side of the cable, because there is a nude beach, and I heard that sometimes you see people having shag at the poll from the cable corner.
Lima and Vule where filming me with two cameras, for an video for Rope Clothing Company!
Beograd has around three millions inhabitants but no underground system, so you can imagine how much traffic they got on the streets. You still can see marks from the war at bombed buildings. On daylight people are very open and friendly, but on nighttimes I don’t want to be on the wrong place at the wrong time. The clubs we went were secured with loads of guards. The puplic walking zone is a paradise for girls to go shopping, and for men just to watch other women. Because statistically on one men come six women. Maybe because so many people died in the war, mother nature brings up more women to grow the nation again. Prostitution is prohibited and there are no whore houses, but I guess there are enough women for every men anyway.
There are many good restaurants where you can sit outside or float on the Danube. The atmosphere is very nice, you see there is some action and life on the streets. The prices are also a bit cheaper than at home.
We went to see Kalemegdan, it is a castle in an big park, you have a nice few over the center of the city and the Danube. There is also a big zoo plus an little exhibition of war tanks, bombs and guns.
Overall we spent nice four days in Beograd, big thanks again to Vule he was a really good host! Thank you so much!
