Over 2.000 spectators came, I was as impressed as the riders, media and sponsors. Those many hours of work I put in that event payed off. It was a big pleasure to see that the concept which I worked out over the winter for Energie AG and Red bull, finally became reality and worked out so good.
Die sportlich hochkarätigen Leistungen der Fahrer trafen genau meine Erwartungen. Aufgrund der Format-Verschmelzung von Jamsession, K.O. System und Best Trick fielen zu Genüge 720s, 900s und double blinds. Die spannenden Länderduelle und die knackige Wettkampfdauer von 2,5 h waren ein Genuss zum Zusehen und linderten meine Enttäuschung bereits in der ersten Runde gegen Matty Hassler aus Australien ausgeschieden zu sein. Matty wurde schlussendlich verdient zweiter.
The extremely high level of riding matched my expectations, 7s,9s, double blinds where seen a lot. I melted the formats of a jamsession, k.o. system and best trick. It was an enjoyment to watch the exciting country againgst country matches with in this crispy contest duration of 2,5 hours. This took a bit of my disappointment away that I fell out in the first round against Matty Hassler from Australia, who deserved 2nd at the end.
A beautiful thing at the the H20 Wakeparade 2011 was not only that, we had riders from 5 continents and 14 countries but it was also a big get to gather of the three different wakeboard families (terrains: boat, cable, obstacle only).
Every rider had 2min 45sec time and just his best trick on rail, best trick on kicker and best trick of the flat got scored. All three scores with a max of 10 pts. got added. So all terrains got the same weight on pts. (Rail/Obstacle Only, Kicker/Boot, Flat/Cable)
The riding action + countdown was shown on the videowall and the flat TV screens in the tents (vip tents). There was a horn when the time was over, and the riders was allowed to do one more trick for his score. Immediately the opponent started, after he was finished, both scores and the winner were shown on the videowall and screens
We separated all eight european riders and let them draw their exotic opponents on friday night. Every rider had to walk up and blindly pick a card with a name. With head or tails the winner could decide if he want to start first or second.

On saturday 4 pm we started with a short riders presentation. Then immediately the first round started with 8 head to head battles (duration 1h). The top 8 riders who passed the first round, where not allowed to repeat the tricks (which got scored) from the first round. They had to wait for the 3rd round to do all tricks again. This provided some variations and we didn't got to see the same runs from qualies to finals.

The prize money of 15.000 € was split to all 16 riders as followed : 4.000, 3.000, 2.000, 1.200, 4x 600, 8x 300 Paid out cash on the same day, the organizers also covered the prize money tax, which is different for every country, so that every rider really got the full amount. Big thanks for that to Michael from Energie AG.
We all partied hard at that evening and celebrated this special contest.

Feel the water’s force and marvel at the boarders’ tricks. It’s the double- for-your-money weekend of the Energie AG’s H2O Wake Parade & Corona Wakeboard Cup – August 5+6 in Gmunden / Austria
Right where water generates the energy for Upper Austria, sixteen of the world’s best wake boarders bring that energy back. Drawn by an electric Sesitec System 2.0, the riders from 5 continents and 15 countries conjure up jaw-dropping tricks on the Traun. Upper Austria’s energy supplier Energie AG has placed this unique location at their disposal.
Two events in 2 days will put all eyes of the wakeboard world on Gmunden. The traditional tour stop of the Corona Wakeboard Cup will be preceded for the first time by the H2O Wake Parade qualifications on Gmunden’s Esplanade. Riders then go head-to-head in a nerve- tingling KO competition where their mettle is tested to the limit in three categories – best air- trick, best performance on slider and best on kicker. Only the rider with the best overall impression will make it into the next round. That tricks he used to win the battle, don’t count in the quarter-finals. That’s why tactics and a huge number of tricks are important.
Energie AG rider Daniel Fetz and Red Bull athlete Dominik Hernler line up for Austria seeking to keep the title in the alpine republic. Fetz has dominated the local wakeboard scene for at least 10 years. It was only a few weeks ago that he once again took the national title in cable wakeboarding. European junior champ Hernler prefers to strut his stuff behind a boat rather than a cable but has no fear of the obstacle course. He will contest both Gmunden events along with his colleagues. Wakeboard fans are waiting eagerly for the debut of 13-year old prodigy Daniel Grant from Thailand. He already has three world titles in two different disciplines – wakeboarding and wakeskating. Munich Red Bull rider Dominik Gührs represents Germany. Marc Shuster was chosen to fight for the USA, Matty Hasler for Australia. Canada’s Raph Derome will compete, as well as Rocco van Stratten from the Netherlands. Style-machine Ben Hitch from Great Britain returns to Austria after a break of 8 years. Ausgerechnet dort, wo Wasserkraft die Energie für Oberösterreich schafft, bringen die 16 besten Wakeboarder aus der ganzen Welt die Spannung zurück aufs Wasser. Gezogen von einer elektrischen Zweimast-Liftanlage werden die geladenen Rider aus fünf Kontinenten und 15 Ländern atemberaubende Tricks auf die Traun zaubern. Die Energie AG Oberösterreich stellt dafür diese einzigartige Location, direkt vor dem Wasserkraftwerk Gmunden zur Verfügung.
Mit zwei Events an zwei Tagen wird Gmunden zum Wakeboard-Nabel der Welt. Neben dem traditionellen Tourstopp des Corona Wakeboard Cups hinter dem Boot an der Esplanade gesellt sich erstmals die H2O Wake-Parade dazu. In einem völlig neuartigen head-to-head K.O. System müssen die Sportler in drei Kategorien überzeugen. Gewertet wird der beste Air-Trick, sowie die beste Performance am Slider und auch am Kicker. Für ihre Air-Tricks bauen die Wakeboarder Spannung am Zugseil auf, um sich dann von der Anlage bis zu fünf Meter hoch katapultieren zu lassen. Am Slider kommt es auf Board-Beherrschung, Style und Gleichgewicht an. Der Kicker wird die Athleten wie eine Schanze noch mal in die Höhe befördern und lässt bis zu 1080er, also dreifache Rotationen zu.
Für Österreich gehen Daniel Fetz als Energie AG-Rider und Dominik Hernler als Red Bull-Rider ins Rennen und versuchen den Titel im Land zu halten. Fetz ist seit gut zehn Jahren das Aushängeschild der heimischen Wakeboardszene und konnte vor wenigen Wochen seinen siebenten Staatsmeistertitel am Lift feiern. Junioren Europameister Dominik Hernler ist eigentlich Spezialist am Boot, findet sich aber auch auf den Obstacles super zurecht. Er wird bei beiden Bewerben in Gmunden an den Start gehen, so wie einige seiner Kollegen auch. Gespannt darf man auf den ersten Österreich-Auftritt des erst 14-Jährigen Wunderkinds Daniel Grant aus Thailand sein. Der Shooting-Star konnte bereits drei Weltmeistertitel sammeln, noch dazu in zwei verschiedenen Wake-Sportarten (Wakeboard & Wakeskate). Für unsere Nachbarn in Deutschland geht der Münchner Red-Bull-Rider Dominik Gührs, seines Zeichens Europameister am Lift an den Start. Insgesamt bringen die 16 Rider aus 5 Kontinenten nicht weniger als 16 EM und WM Titel mit.
Startschuss für den Wakeboard Doppelpack in Gmunden ist am Freitag, den 5. August mit der Qualifikation für den Corona Wakeboard Cup an der Esplanade. Mit Shuttlebussen geht es am Samstag von der Esplanade zum Wasserkraftwerk, wo um 16.00 Uhr die H2O Wake Parade startet. Shuttlebusse führen auch wieder zurück zum Flutlichtfinale des Corona Wakeboard Cups, sowie zur Aftercontestparty.

Das Kraftwerk Gmunden liegt fast unmittelbar am Nordende des Traunsees – nur zwei Kilometer flußabwärts der Stelle, wo der Fluß den See verläßt. Vom Kraftwerk bis zum Stadtplatz von Gmunden führt als beliebter Spazierweg bei Alt und Jung die Traunpromenade.
